Ways to Give

The success of the Lamar State College Port Arthur Foundation has been and continues to be the generosity of its donors. The Foundation works to supplement the cost of tuition and fees by garnering scholarship support, seeking grant funds for programs and projects, funding endowments for current and future students, and ensuring funding through planned giving. Donations enhance student success. From current needs to perpetual funding, all donor gifts have an impact. Gifts can be designated for scholarships, academic programs, classroom enhancements, capital projects, etc. Endowments can be created in memory or honor of a special individual. Gifts designated for greatest need gives the Foundation the opportunity to provide funding where it is needed most, capitalize on unexpected opportunities, or meet unforeseen challenges.

Gifts made to the Lamar State College Port Arthur Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Annual Giving Campaign

Scholarships

Scholarships provide financial assistance to students as they work to achieve their academic goals. Donations for scholarships can be made as general scholarship support or donors are welcome to establish a named scholarship with specific criteria such as GPA, financial need, major, or other preferences.

Endowments

An endowment provides a continuing source of funding from the Lamar State College Port Arthur Foundation to LSCPA. Through an endowment, a legacy can be created that honors a family, individual or supporter of LSCPA.
Establishing an endowment includes:

  • Gift amount of $15,000.
    (Can be established as a lump sum or in three yearly installments)
  • Donor designates area of support, i.e. scholarships, specific program, capital improvements, etc.
  • Endowment funds are managed by an outside investment advisor in conjunction with the Lamar State College Port Arthur Foundation’s Board of Directors.
  • Recognition includes a plaque with donor’s name/photo and endowment information that is prominently displayed on the LSCPA Foundation website.
  • Donors receive an annual report of their endowment’s performance and the recipient names.

Planned Giving/Legacy Gifts

Establishing a legacy gift during lifetime or creating one through a final estate plan are effective means of providing future giving without impeding a current lifestyle or income stream.  It can also be an effective tax planning strategy for highly appreciated assets.  Seeking the professional advice of an estate planner can provide planning strategies that benefit the donor as well as Lamar State College Port Arthur. Charitable gifts can also be made through a will or trust document that will provide future support to the Lamar State College Port Arthur Foundation. Reasons to consider a charitable gift include:

  • Enhancing and initiating new instructional programs
